Potential Evidence that links Julian Assange, WikiLinks and Anonymous

**UPDATE12/17/2010 @ 9:45 PM**

Looks like someone is listening to me:

Sounds awfully familiar.....oh wait, I know why....look below!

**UPDATE: 12/17/2010 @ 12:25 PM**

This will be my last update...because I have no need to after this.

(1:49:40 PM) Manning: this one was a test: Classified cable from US Embassy Reykjavik on Icesave dated 13 Jan 2010
(1:50:30 PM) Manning: the result of that one was that the icelandic ambassador to the US was recalled, and fired
(1:51:02 PM) Manning: thats just one cable…
(1:51:14 PM) Lamo: Anything unreleased?

(1:51:25 PM) Manning: i’d have to ask assange
(1:51:53 PM) Manning: i zerofilled the original
(1:51:54 PM) Lamo: why do you answer to him?
(1:52:29 PM) Manning: i dont… i just want the material out there… i dont want to be a part of it

Manning discussed his role as a source for Wikileaks and his interactions with its enigmatic founder, Julian Assange. He also talked about two videos he claimed he provided Wikileaks — one of an airstrike in Iraq in 2007, which he said he gave Wikileaks in February and which Wikileaks said it spent three months decrypting before publishing it this last April; and another video taken during an air strike in Afghanistan in 2009, which Wikileaks has acknowledged it possesses but has not yet published.

(2:04:29 PM) Manning: im a source, not quite a volunteer
(2:05:38 PM) Manning: i mean, im a high profile source… and i’ve developed a relationship with assange… but i dont know much more than what he tells me, which is very little
(2:05:58 PM) Manning: it took me four months to confirm that the person i was communicating was in fact assange

"Prosecutors are studying instant-message chats between Manning and Assange for evidence, and investigating Manning's alleged claims that Assange gave him access to a WikiLeaks server for uploading classified documents. Adrian Lamo, the ex-hacker who turned Manning in, said the FBI had taken his hard drive, on which his conversations with Manning were saved."

"Assange on Friday told a series of interviewers that he had never heard of Manning’s name before it was published in the world press and that he did not provide Manning with any kind of software that would have allowed him special privileges in terms of access to WikiLeaks’s electronic mailboxes."

Sure, anyone can beat around the bush as Assange has been carefully doing between his commentary to the press, with the revamp of WikiLeaks' direction, etc. If you have evidence that he assisted Manning with the leaks...which it has been claimed...that is conspiracy.

In addition, see if you can tie Anonymous into this since they are more apart of this then you think. I know I did my part....but I'm not going to upload those screenshots yet. Just keep up to date with the news.

I hope this is a joke:

Don't leak my address: Astonishing plea from WikiLeaks boss as he tries to get bail

"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange tried to hide his bail address from the public in an astonishing move for the man responsible for leaking thousands of diplomatic secrets.
Assange's lawyers argued that the location - a 10-bedroom stately home - should not be disclosed on grounds of privacy during yesterday's hearing at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

But the move was dismissed by District Judge Howard Riddle, who ruled not to reveal the address would conflict with Assange's commitment to open justice."

[http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1338832/WikiLeaks-Julian-Assange-asked-judge-bail-address-secret.html?ITO=1490]NO COMMENT NECESSARY...
Other than the fact that Julian Assange is a hypocrite.

**UPDATE: 12/15/2010 @ 12:30 PM**

Nice job. Give people tools to join their cause. Know that it is traceable (for those they don't know what they are doing) --- have the masterminds hide in the shadows.

Good. I'm glad. You deserve it for breaking the law. But you have to believe that people like ANONYMOUS don't want to harm society....except they have, and are continuine to do so. Trust me.

Much easier to cover up the key players with a bunch of other people out in the open while they stay hidden in the shadow.

People that have joined the cause and participated in Operation Payback are nothing but a decoy, just like in Operation Leakspin....

You are being used to filter out the diplomatic cables....

Watch the WikiLeak videos I posted in the previous post to get a better understanding....maybe then you can connect the dots.

Cyberattacks Q&A: 'World of pain' for those who don't support WikiLeaks

Gregg Housh, an unofficial spokesman for Anonymous, explains how the hactivist collective's voluntary botnet was powerful enough to bring down Visa and MasterCard websites.

CSM: Do you know Julian Assange?
GH: That’s an area I don’t want to get into right now. I want to avoid that because I don’t think it’s necessarily important to this. I have nothing to do with the operation of that site.

You know what that sounds like? Fear.

The internet has a presence beyond what most people can comprehend. Put social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter in the mix and you can have an incredible power; both for good or evil. An individual, regardless of their agendas, has the ability to share information with the world, and people can be captivated by this content. And it all can happen in the blink of an eye.

The network does the rest. A network we define by our own personalities and agendas.

Now, let us take a second to look back at the current situation with Anonymous, WikiLeaks, and Julian Assange:

A group of hackers, known as Anonymous, is making a bunch of noise on the internet – and at this point of time, they are posing a threat to our society. I say this because what they have done to capture our attention with the exploitation of MasterCard, Visa and PayPal has been significant and does cause a course of concern. What people do not truly understand is the impact. With the appropriate propaganda, and a well structured plan, chaos will be inevitable. .

The problem is that it has already begun, and most may not even have any knowledge of what is happening.

WikiLeaks released a cache of 250,000 leaked U.S. embassy cables, causing a global frenzy which angered governments and caused a massive wave of attacks between WikiLeaks haters and supporters. Within hours, the DDoS* attacks against WikiLeaks begins.

*A DDoS attack is "an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DDoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person, or people, to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently, or at all, temporarily or indefinitely."

For those that do not even know about Anonymous, a little background:

A "loose coalition of Internet denizens,"[9] the group is banded together by the internet, through sites such as 4chan,[7][9] 711chan,[7] Encyclopædia Dramatica,[10] IRC channels,[7] and YouTube.[1]

Social networking services, such as Facebook, are used for the creation of groups which reach out to people to mobilize in real-world protests.[11]

What are these protests related to?
Freedom of our First Amendment.

How do I know for sure?

Operation Payback
Anonymous Message About ACTA Laws, Internet Censorship and Copyright

Oh, let me give you the transcript as well:

Operation Payback (is a bitch), this is the Internet, we run this. An open message from Anonymous to the governments of the world and their legal leeches regarding the motivation of the cyber protests.

Corrupt governments of the world, we are anonymous. For some time now, voices have been crying out in unison against the new ACTA laws. The gross inadequacies of the new laws being passed internationally have been pointed out repeatedly. Our chief complaint is that such measures would restrict people's access to the internet.

In these modern times access to the internet is fast becoming a basic human right. Just like any other basic human right, we believe that it is wrong to infringe upon it. To threaten to cut people off from the global consciousness as you have is criminal and abhorrent. To move to censor content on the internet based on your own prejudice is at best laughably impossible, at worst, morally reprehensible.

The unjust restrictions you impose on us will meet with disaster and only strengthen our resolve to disobey and rebel against your tyranny. Such actions taken against you, and those you out source your malignant litigation too, are inevitable, unavoidable and unstoppable.

We Are Anonymous,

We Are Legion And Divided By Zero.

We Do Not Forgive Internet Censorship

And We Do Not Forget Free Speech.

We Are Over 9000,

Expect Us!

Who is Julian Assange?

Julian Paul Assange is an Australian journalist,[5][6][7] publisher,[8][9] and Internet activist. He is best known as the spokesperson and editor in chief for WikiLeaks, a whistleblower website. Before working with the website, he was a computer programmer.*[10] He has lived in several countries, and has made occasional public appearances to speak about freedom of the presscensorship, and investigative journalism.**

Assange founded the WikiLeaks website in 2006 and serves on its advisory board.

* - Did you also know that he is a HACKER? (more to come on this later)
** - This is just IRONIC, based on his latest press conference with FOX:  [http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/10/assange-distances-wikileaks-cyber-attacks/]

How could an internet activist, Julian Assange, creator of WikiLeaks, and a well-known HACKER that speaks regarding freedom of press and censorship, say that "he is not happy about the attacks" and "did not order them" -- they are two forces that are fighting for the same cause.

Or maybe they are the same forces.

In short, I believe that the launch of WikiLeaks was a planned trigger for the subsequent events. The information that is provided is an attempt to cause havoc on a global scale.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Anonymous hackers are attempting to use a socially engineered scheme, as it has the potential to spread like a virus. By crashing major corporations that transmit and process financial transactions in retaliation for refusing service, we were left with a dilemma when MasterCard, Visa and PayPal went down:

Was there actually a theft of personal information regarding Visa/MasterCard/PayPal, or was it just an attack causing an illusion to think that cardholder data was compromised?

Since MasterCard, Visa and PayPal crashed on Wednesday (12/8/2010) due to this attack, it creates an illusion that could cause a social pandemic.

How so? Look at the message that Anonymous is trying to convey across Facebook and Twitter, through social networking, regarding the attacks to the financial network websites:

Operation Bank-Troll:

HOWEVER, based on the news today (12/10/2010):

"We do not want to steal your personal information or credit card numbers. We also do not seek to attack critical infrastructure of companies such as Mastercard, Visa, PayPal or Amazon. Our current goal is to raise awareness about WikiLeaks and the underhanded methods employed by the above companies to impair WikiLeaks’ ability to function.”

**UPDATE: 12/11/2010 @ 3:00 AM**

I believe that I am having an argument with a member of ANONYMOUS by the name of Mats / al183908 via the Comments section. He states that, and I quote:

"A single person created the image that you post in your blog, suggesting that panic be incited by spreading false rumors. However because everyone could tell the list was fake to begin with, and no one else in Anonymous agreed that it was a good idea, or would serve our purpose, it didn't happen"

Well. If it didn't happen, then why do I have this picture

Quoting the article: "At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening the twitter account, Anon_Operation belonging to the hackers [Anonymous] acting on behalf of WikiLeaks posted this message [above]"

"Exposing the credit card numbers and last valid dates of nearly 10,000 user’s cards. The tweet was only up for approximately five minutes before it was taken down by twitter. Still, the damage is done. The risk of internet-savvy users to take screenshots of the information and duplicate it through the web is high."

@Pats -- You say it didn't happen.....this tells me otherwise.

To me, saying the above seems awfully HYPOCRITICAL to have an
OPERATION BANK-TROLL which has a GOAL to: Spread word all over the web that MasterCard servers have been breached and that private account details have been revealed.

Anonymous is using this social engineering scheme as a scare tactic --- Post it on a social network for everyone to see, and the word will spread. This tactic, however, can only work if we are truly compromised, and only if we allow ourselves to believe that we are truly compromised.

Press releases were issued to the public notifying cardholders that their personal information is safe. I can assure you that what has been stated in the argument is, in fact, true. It is the MISINFORMATION from the social scheme dictated by the Anonymous hackers that could cause pandemonium based on the message and tools being used above.

I'm writing this because I’m not sure if Facebook or Twitter is going to go down in a matter of time. But honestly, I do not believe that it will happen anytime soon. Look what type of exposure Twitter has received regarding WikiLeaks:
The Anonymous hackers DO NOT want to shut down Facebook or Twitter; they are tool to build ‘a digital army’ --- you can recruit and coordinate attacks at free will in an anonymous setting. In addition, people using social networks viewing these debaucheries can easily obtain and use code provided by Anonymous to contribute to the overall attack.

This is the major part of the Social Engineering scheme:

Manipulate normal people to believe that something is happening that truly is not; create a breakdown by causing mayhem and convince people to follow your cause.

After the websites targeted from the attacks shut down WikiLeaks financial resources, they retaliated. But after watching the videos posted above before the launch of WikiLeaks....think about what they are attempting to do. And they could quite possibly succeed....unless we find out the facts, and know the truth about what is happening.

So far, Operation Bank-Troll has failed. It DID NOT cause a panic with society -- nor did it disrupt our economy.

What do I think is happening now? I think that the release of sensitive documents by WikiLeaks was designed as a trigger for a series of events. They are using this scheme to cause a panic. It is a frame of mind and point of view that is being engineered into the brains of some.

Now, the next phase is starting, and it could be the last one:

Do you find it a coincidence?

OPERATION LEAKSPIN:
A message from ANONYMOUS

-Use a scheme that causes a panic because of misleading information regarding the take down of financial networks
-Not taking down social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook due to primary use of the application as a weapon and an information outlet
-Associated hackers within Anonymous are now 'changing their strategy' to leak sensitive information.

My belief is now they are going to bring light to the fire on some SERIOUS information and cause more mayhem and panic. Beware.

One last interesting point.....do you think it is odd that Julian Assange asks the United States President Barack Obama to STEP DOWN:

In an effort to take the offensive, WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange demanded that President Barack Obama resign from office if it's shown that he authorized -- or ordered -- U.S. State Department officials to conduct covert surveillance on the United Nations .
According to the Daily Mirror, in an Internet chat on Sunday, Assange said, "The whole chain of command who was aware of this order, and approved it, must resign if the U.S. is to be seen to be a credible nation that obeys the rule of law. The order is so serious it may well have been put to the president for approval."

Be wary of media that is conveyed by ANONYMOUS.

Oh wait, is this the manifesto for ANONYMOUS?

So if you are choosing not to disturb the public peace, then why employ a tactic that causes social trickery?

By falsely claiming that MasterCard details were taken and compromised?

Nice try...

Oh, did I almost forget that I mentioned that
Julian Assange...

 is a HACKER?

Check this out....

in 1987, after turning 16, Assange began hacking under the name "Mendax" (derived from a phrase of Horace: "splendide mendax," or "nobly untruthful").[2] He and two other hackers joined to form a group which they named the International Subversives. Assange wrote down the early rules of the subculture: "Don’t damage computer systems you break into (including crashing them); don’t change the information in those systems (except for altering logs to cover your tracks); and share information".[2]
In response to the hacking, the Australian Federal Police raided his Melbourne home in 1991.[20] He was reported to have accessed computers belonging to an Australian university, the Canadian telecommunications company Nortel,[2] and other organisations, via modem.[21] In 1992, he pleaded guilty to 24 charges of hacking and was released on bond for good conduct after being fined AU$2100.[2][22] The prosecutor said "there is just no evidence that there was anything other than sort of intelligent inquisitiveness and the pleasure of being able to—what's the expression—surf through these various computers".[2]
Assange later commented, "It's a bit annoying, actually. Because I cowrote a book about [being a hacker], there are documentaries about that, people talk about that a lot. They can cut and paste. But that was 20 years ago. It's very annoying to see modern day articles calling me a computer hacker. I'm not ashamed of it, I'm quite proud of it. But I understand the reason they suggest I'm a computer hacker now. There's a very specific reason."[8]

Does what I'm saying make sense now?

Spread the word -- Just as Anonymous / WikiLeaks / Julian Assange is attempting to do. Don't allow them to continue the mayhem they want to achieve.

**UPDATE: 12/11/2010 @ 7:00 PM**

Response to Mats -- "Oh boy, we're battling now? This just got a whole lot more interesting."

Mats said...
[select name (Mats) to view Original Post]

Oh boy, we're battling now? This just got a whole lot more interesting.

Since you're calling me a hacker who's part of Anonymous, I'll humor you with a response. Yes, I am part of Anonymous. As are you, and every single other person who has ever used the internet, so that's not saying a whole lot. No I am not a hacker, though I do share the hacker spirit of inquisitiveness. Hacking is defined as the circumvention of computer security, an activity I have never engaged in. I am merely a technologically competent citizen of the internet.

As for your assertion that governments deserve the same privacy as individual citizens, that is patently false. The government operates with the permission and funding of its citizens, and as such its activities are subject to public review and approval. If you were paying me to engage in a conversation with a friend or family member, you would be completely justified in wanting to know what was said during that conversation. The same is true of governments and corporations.
As for the fact that a citizen "SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH ABUSES OF THIS FREEDOM AS SHALL BE DEFINED BY LAW." I would be inclined to generally agree with you. It is for this reason that it should be noted that WikiLeaks has not been convicted of any breach of law and has in fact not even been charged with a crime of any kind. Multiple legal experts have asserted that the reason WikiLeaks has not been charged with a crime is because they haven't broken any laws.

Twitter shutting down the account of Anon_Operations has no bearing whatsoever on how many people were listening to their instructions. The account was suspended because it violated Twitter's ToS, nothing more. As for the screenshot of the instructions being circulated on the internet, that too has no bearing on how many people listened to the instruction. Photographs of instructions circulating the web do not necessitate the following of those instructions.
Glad I got your attention.

Let's get one thing straight, I am not apart of ANONYMOUS, and by the definition of whyweprotest.com, neither is everyone as you stated:

"We are a collection of individuals united by ideas. You likely know Anonymous, although you don't know exactly who we are."

Web definitions for collection:

'several things grouped together or considered as a whole'

I'm not united with your ideas, as I clearly state that I oppose them. But thank you for admitting that you are ANONYMOUS, and stating exactly WHO YOU ARE.

(Mats): "No I am not a hacker, though I do share the hacker spirit of inquisitiveness. Hacking is defined as the circumvention of computer security, an activity I have never engaged in."

You know what a social hacker is?

(2) Type in the search box: 'social hacking'
(3) View the results.

To cut to the chase, this is the entry that is pulled for SOCIAL HACKING:

SOCIAL ENGINEERING

Social engineering is a discipline in political science that refers to efforts to influence popular attitudes and social behaviors on a large scale, whether by governments or private groups.

Just put MORE LIGHT to my argument, again. You are helping make my facts more concrete. I thank you for that.

So now that we have cleared it up, you admitted that you are from ANONYMOUS, and although you are "not a hacker...[you] do share the hacker spirit of inquisitiveness."

You also stated that "Hacking is defined as the circumvention of computer security, an activity I have never engaged in. I am merely a technologically competent citizen of the internet." -- does not state that you are a part of a social engineered scheme....now does it?

(Mats): "If you were paying me to engage in a conversation with a friend or family member, you would be completely justified in wanting to know what was said during that conversation. The same is true of governments and corporations."

Well, it's funny you say that because there is a such thing as "A verbal contract, [which] is any contract which is expressed in words (written or spoken). This contrasts with a contract which is implied by actions of the parties. An implied contract can be either implied in fact or implied in law. A contract which is implied in fact is one in which the circumstances imply that parties have reached an agreement even though they have not done so expressly."

ALL people, regardless of affiliation or aspirations, are entitled to certain aspects of privacy deeming laws and regulations. This is why we in fact have a LEGAL SYSTEM.

Unfortunately, the problem with the legal system is that there are far too many loop holes and injustices in itself.

(Mats): "As for the fact that a citizen "SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH ABUSES OF THIS FREEDOM AS SHALL BE DEFINED BY LAW." I would be inclined to generally agree with you. It is for this reason that it should be noted that WikiLeaks has not been convicted of any breach of law and has in fact not even been charged with a crime of any kind."

I'm glad you agree with me. And I agree with you. As of right now, WikiLeaks has not been convicted of a breach of laws, but the data that was relayed to WikiLeaks was obtained illegally.

This is like a familiar statement I made regarding loopholes in the legal system.

(Mats): "As for the screenshot of the instructions being circulated on the internet, that too has no bearing on how many people listened to the instruction. Photographs of instructions circulating the web do not necessitate the following of those instructions.."

Oh, really? Is that so? I guess I should bust out some better sources for you to check then:

"Viral panic attack

Not long after the DDoS attack launched an offensive with the aim AnonOps panic about alleged leaks from MasterCard credit card numbers, hoping that people en masse would cancel their credit card.

It was called the message on a megalek one million MasterCard numbers of viral spread, including by deception through automatically generated Google search on "MasterCard Deemed unsafe"

There was also a list of alleged credit card numbers uploaded to pastebin. Mastercard through its webcare team proposes that the numbers are fake and give customer data secure.

However, the DDoS payments MasterCard temporarily disrupted. This is because the site and MasterCard SecureCode authentication service running on the same infrastructure."

My point still stands.

(Mats): "Twitter shutting down the account of Anon_Operations has no bearing whatsoever on how many people were listening to their instructions. The account was suspended because it violated Twitter's ToS, nothing more."

Yeah, I understand that the account was suspended because it violated Twitter's ToS -- specifically this part:

Restrictions on Content and Use of the Services

Just because you are trying to the state that the circulation of OPERATION BANK-TROLL has no bearing on how many people listened to the instructions, doesn't mean the intent was to cause panic as stated in the article above. Unfortunately, the plan deteriorated after MasterCard made a statement. Period.

Oh, and as for people listening to the instructions of Anon_Operations, I can't truly quantify it, well...potentially, I can:

  1. I think you have misinterpreted everything "Anonymous" has done.

1)Anonymous is not an organization, it just designates a group of people that at the current moment share an ideal: free internet. It has no command structure, nor does it serve any other purpose than to send a message of protest towards those that go against freedom.

2)It is true that Anonymous (the people who support what wikileaks has done, which is expose UNJUST, CORRUPTED and ABUSIVE acts done by YOUR government) intend to shake the status quo. With only one purpose, to generate media attention, and bring these matter into light. To show how the government is exerting unjustified pressure on companies so that they retract their support for WikiLeaks. To cover their asses.

    3) You should not be afraid of Anonymous, for they are fighting for you. You should fear your government, for its claws extend extremely farther than what they should, its hands grasp more than what the public have voted them for.

  6. I don't think you understand how the internet works. If you write something compelling people will spread it around. Sadly for you no one is retweeting it or spreading your blog. So essentially you are left to spamming spamming spamming. People aren't spreading your diatribe around because well, quite frankly, it's not very good. I would also guess you haven't taken any marketing courses as the name you chose is also quite weak. Honestly, why not accept the fact that maybe your theory isn't generating interest because it's not very good. Based on your writings alone you don't even understand what anonymous is.

  18. LOL, you don't even know what irony means.

You might think your diatribe is compelling but it's not really blazing up twitter now is it?

Maybe you should try writing a more compelling piece, then it will spread organically. Like I said, it's not like thousands of people haven't already seen your spam it's not spreading because no one cares.

PS I'm here because I'm in it for the LULZ.

  20. If tens of thousands of people have already seen your twitter spam and it hasn't created any organic reaction from people obviously hungry for information about what is going on with anonymous and wikileaks what makes you think it's going to get attention by spamming more people?

You should try a different approach, like maybe an entirely different article.

  22. It should be noted that the instructions to incite panic by spreading rumors about MasterCard were not heeded by...anyone...within Anonymous and the story was revealed as a hoax and disappeared almost as soon as it was posted. It's therefore abundantly clear to anyone with 1/4 of a brain that the scheme was the work of a single individual and was not supported by the majority of Anonymous.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Use this same energy to read the cables-- Anonymous didn't leak them, they're just reposting them. Why not take a look for yourself? See if maybe you're being victimized by SOMEONE ELSE'S misinformation tactics?

The list of cards that were leaked contained numbers that supposedly expired as late as 2030 and others that contained only single-digit years. Since these are obviously invalid card expiration dates, we can conclude that the list was a randomly generated table and did not include real credit card information.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Mats / @al183908 -- I need to quote you real quick on your original post:

"It should be noted that the instructions to incite panic by spreading rumors about MasterCard were not heeded by...anyone...within Anonymous and the story was revealed as a hoax and disappeared almost as soon as it was posted...work of a single individual and was not supported by the majority of Anonymous."

    And you just replied with:

"The list of cards that were leaked contained numbers that supposedly expired as late as 2030 and others that contained only single-digit years. Since these are obviously invalid card expiration dates, we can conclude that the list was a randomly generated table and did not include real credit card information"

That still doesn't answer my original question:

"Can you please cite the reference that dictates that OPERATION BANK-TROLL was actually a hoax?

I would like to see that documented. When ever you get a chance."

    --------

Also, if you are all ANONYMOUS, how do you know if it just a 'single' person that was involved?

[Anonymous is] the first internet-based superconsciousness. Anonymous is a group, in the sense that a flock of birds is a group. How do you know they're a group? Because they're travelling in the same direction. At any given moment, more birds could join, leave, peel off in another direction entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh boy you really are thick so apparently I need to spell this all out for you.

The list of credit cards was fake. As soon as it was posted, everyone who actually looked at the list noticed that it was fake and paid no attention to it. The first people to comment on the post all observed that fact that it included numbers that were not in the right format to be MasterCard numbers and dates that were invalid as card expiration dates. Hence: a hoax. My reference for this fact is the original list of numbers, which you can find if you google it.
As for it being the work of one person, everything that Anonymous does stems, originally, from an individual. A single person suggested that a DDoS attack be performed and because a lot of other people agreed, that came to fruition. A single person created the image that you post in your blog, suggesting that panic be incited by spreading false rumors. However because everyone could tell the list was fake to begin with, and no one else in Anonymous agreed that it was a good idea, or would serve our purpose, it didn't happen. The wikipedia page you cite uses the analogy of birds in a flock, and that's a good analogy. If a single bird peels off and flies in a different direction, or takes a dump on your head, it does not necessarily represent the course, attitude, or beliefs of the entire flock. By that same token, just because a single individual thought it was funny to make a fake list of credit card numbers and start a false rumor, does not mean that it represents the intent, or gains the support of Anonymous as a collective.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Fanie -- "This war is against governments and organizations that want to control people. It has NOTHING to do with hacking or social engineering or anything else."

I thought you said you knew what social engineering means?

ANONYMOUS has attempted to manipulate and control people, both those who associate with ANONYMOUS, and those within society.

    (1) ANONYMOUS recruits people to assist in attacking those that they choose to oppose.
    (2) ANONYMOUS attempted to manipulate society by publishing false information regarding the attack of MasterCard.

-ANONYMOUS performed a DDoS attack that brought down the corporate website....

-ANONYMOUS claimed that MasterCard card holder information was compromised and posted it on the internet.

-ANONYMOUS attempt to deploy a scheme called OPERATION BANK-TROLL to spread the word that MasterCard data is deemed unsafe.

-MasterCard provides a press release stating that no personal data was compromised.

-ANONYMOUS then states that they "We do not want to steal your personal information or credit card numbers. We also do not seek to attack critical infrastructure of companies such as Mastercard, Visa, PayPal or Amazon."

So let's recap quickly, shall we:

ANONYMOUS attacked MasterCard to make it appear that personal card holder information was stolen, attempted to spread the word (failed miserably at the attempt), in order to cause a panic.

In addition, your comments about free speech / government / etc. are great, but that is not the topic of discussion. I've already stated that I believe in the freedom of speech....but not when the data is obtained illegally:

Manning was charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) with violations of UCMJ Articles 92 and 134, for "transferring classified data onto his personal computer and adding unauthorized software to a classified computer system," and "communicating, transmitting and delivering national defense information to an unauthorized source".[2][7]

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Mats -- I never said that ANONYMOUS has a leader, I say a 'leader accounts' [Twitter] --- in which ANONYMOUS was using to provide guidance on the DDoS attacks towards Visa and MasterCard. This is still valid, because certain members of ANONYMOUS "have a louder voice" with directing the overall goals and objectives:

"Anyone who wants to can be Anonymous and work toward a set of goals...We have this agenda that we all agree on and we all coordinate and act, but all act independently toward it, without any want for recognition. We just want to get something that we feel is important done...
—a member of Anonymous, as quoted by Chris Landers"

    So, you were saying?

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Adam -- So it's OK for ANONYMOUS to 'spam' corporate websites using a DDoS attack (which is essential a spam of server requests to overload the site) -- but it's a problem now if I do the same thing via Twitter when they are trying to deploy similar attacks of a different nature?

It's funny how people react when they oppose something. Maybe you should review the evidence within this post and come up with your own conclusion. A lot of interesting FACTS with sources. (Legally obtained, unlike all of those WikiLeaks you are reading out there)

Also, much more legal than facilitating attacks on corporations, government officials, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You say you support freedom of speech, but not when the information is obtained illegally. What's to stop the government from making it illegal to spread any information which may be damaging to them? True freedom of speech simply cannot exist in an environment where the people who are in power and would be hurt most by the data are allowed to use laws to control what data can and cannot be spread. End of story. Please quit being such a spoonfed patsy.

    "So, you were saying?"
I was saying that Anonymous has no leader and never will, which you have failed to prove false. The Anon_Operations twitter account was no more valid as a form of leadership than the thousands of people posting competing targets in the IRC room, or the several alternate twitter accounts that were suggesting targets. True some Anons have a louder voice, but that is only because they choose to, and even the loudest voices are often ignored by Anonymous as a whole. Anyone could have created the AnonOps twitter account or a competing account and no member of Anonymous was under any obligation to follow the directions posted there or anywhere else. Operation BankTroll did not, as you claim, fail. It was never seriously undertaken to begin with. If the thousands of Anons who participated in the DDoS attack had decided to heed the advice of Anon_Operations and had begun to spread the word about the compromised cards, the rumor would have been spread far and wide across the internet in a very short amount of time. As it was, the card numbers were posted on a single website, and there was a single Reddit.com post linking to the card numbers. No other mention was made outside of a few news organizations who reported on the story.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation, or both.

Now that we have that established, we also make agreements when we are in certain positions, whether it is corporate, government or what may have you. This is an entitlement that is made and should be held accountable. Just as if you want something held in confidence with a friend or family member that is personal to you.

The Declaration [Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen] provides for freedom of expression in Article 11, which states that:

"The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, BUT SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH ABUSES OF THIS FREEDOM AS SHALL BE DEFINED BY LAW.":

Government, in itself, is a whole other issue in itself. I won't disagree with you on that.

"...Operation BankTroll did not, as you claim, fail. It was never seriously undertaken to begin with. If the thousands of Anons who participated in the DDoS attack had decided to heed the advice of Anon_Operations and had begun to spread the word about the compromised cards, the rumor would have been spread far and wide across the internet in a very short amount of time."

    Interesting point.

    (1) Since you have re-iterating many facts about ANONYMOUS, it can only hold true from the statement "It was never seriously undertaken to begin with" --- that you are a hacker affiliated with the attacks performed on ANONYMOUS. Also, you never refuted my original rebuttal in which I CALLED YOU OUT as an ANONYMOUS hacker. Thanks for validating that and making my facts that much stronger.

    (2) You can claim that it was "never seriously undertaken to begin with" --- but based on who was following and taking commands from Anon_Operations, I doubt that.

-Twitter shut down the account after the post was made.
-The screenshot of the attacks from Anon_Operations was posted all over the internet....thus had a large following of those individuals watching the DDoS attacks, and those partaking in the attack.

Shortly thereafter, MasterCard issued a press release stating that no personal card holder data was compromised. That's why the Operation Bank-Troll failed. You were exposed to soon and removed from the spotlight before the word could spread.

  46. Well I just wrote a short novel of a response which has mysteriously disappeared since I posted it...

I'll just sum it all up by saying that politicians are overpaid fatcats and sometimes tiny, relatively insignificant wrongs like the publishing of WikiLeaks or the Pentagon Papers (which were also illegally obtained) must be perpetrated to correct colossal wrongs.
Since every time I attempt to correct your faulty logic, you respond by multiplying them tenfold, I am no longer able to keep up with the barrage of inadequacies, and this will be my last comment.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Mats -- Well, I'm glad you said that, because I was waiting for you to post it but thought you deleted it, allow me:

"Let's get one thing straight, I am not apart of ANONYMOUS, and by the definition of whyweprotest.com, neither is everyone as you stated:

'We are a collection of individuals united by ideas.'"
While you may not share the same ideas as Anonymous at this particular point in time, or on this particular subject, you have no doubt shared our ideas in the past. The group is constantly shifting and reorganizing itself around such a wide variety of concepts and ideals that is virtually impossible for anyone to have never shared a common goal with Anonymous. The fact remains that you have previously been a member of Anonymous without even knowing it. Anonymous has often used the slogan "We are everyone and we are no one." I believe it safe to assume that you are a human being, therefore you are part of Anonymous.

"Social engineering is a discipline in political science that refers to efforts to influence popular attitudes and social behaviors on a large scale, whether by governments or private groups."

By this definition, the posting of this blog, including the line "A socially engineered scheme being used to break down our society....but only if we let it." constitutes social hacking, and you sir, are a dirty dirty social hacker.

As for politicians' 'implied' right to privacy, there is a written contract (in the form of a little-understood document known as The Constitution of the United States of America) which supersedes any poorly defined implied contracts. According to that written contract, politicians are bound to act in the best interests of their constituents, and prohibited from lying to them to further political agendas. When the written contract is violated, it is the duty of any responsible individual to bring this violation to light, regardless of which overpaid fatcat might get uppity about their privacy.

“But Mats!” You cry, “the data that was relayed to WikiLeaks was obtained illegally!”

Well yes, it was. Then again the Pentagon Papers were obtained and leaked illegally and since then every single political scientist and remotely intelligent person has agreed that it was a good thing that the Pentagon Papers were leaked.

Allow me to put it in the simplest terms I can possibly manage in the hope that you might grasp this insanely complex idea: sometimes tiny, relatively insignificant wrongs must be perpetrated to correct and prevent colossal wrongs.

As for the foreign news article you link to, it's so poorly translated I'm not actually sure what it was intending to say, but I have no doubt it wouldn't have proved Julian Assange told me to DDoS MasterCard to bring about anarchy.

Every time I attempt to correct your glaring errors in logic, you respond and multiply them tenfold. I can no longer keep up with the barrage of inadequacies, so this will be my last comment."

ANONYMOUS, however, has been hypocritical, provides MISINFORMATION and and, continues to engage in illegal and unlawful attacks of corporations and governments. This is in support of a foundation that is leaking ILLEGALLY OBTAINED DOCUMENTATION that is sensitive to the balance of society.

There are ways to see the truth, but deploying a socially-engineered scheme with some sort of hidden agenda does concern me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @justlogic -- I don't disagree with that, but depending your agenda, social engineering can truly manipulate a society....I can divulge into this later.

Seeking for the truth is one thing, but obtaining these documents illegally is a completely different story. If those documents were obtain in a legal manner, I would have no problem. They were infiltrated and sent to WikiLeak by Manning, who even stated: "I made a big mess"

Julian Assange is a Publisher, and we have yet to prove if he is a criminal. However, one to commit conspiracy is considered a pretty horrible crime. Trying to manipulate people (I.E -- the MasterCard dilemma) is not right. Having a hidden agenda to disintegrate society is not appropriate.

Are you sure that ANOYMOUS is simply mirroring the "establishments" attack (as you stated).

  54. Well since I was directed here by your spam, I feel obliged to share my opinion. You appear to have thought up a theoretical conspiracy, and built this entire web page around it, with nothing but lip service to objective analysis or anything resembling a balanced argument.

You seem to have simply ignored any material which does not align with the idea you have decided to promote, for instance I think you are suggesting there is some sort of pre-planned attack-like conspiracy afoot with organised "anonymous" hackers pre-emptively targeting mega-corporations, yet you completely ignore the fact that the recent DDoS actions were spontaneous responses to the initial, aggressive and unpredictable actions taken by PayPal, Visa, MasterCard et al against Wikileaks physical and financial infrastructure in the first place.

you repeatedly use spurious logic to associate the axis of evil in your sprawling mess of a plot with concepts you hope an average reader will mentally ascribe as negative, based on very tenuous logic (i.e. anyone involved in trying to "influence popular attitudes" is involved in "Social engineering" > is involved in "Social Hacking" > is a "Hacker" > is Evil and wants to eat your kids. This is ludicrous, and incredibly ignorant.

Also - you don't seem to make any reference to the actual material Wikileaks is releasing - do you believe that having been (albeit illegally) leaked into the public domain (presumably by Bradley Manning), Wikileaks and other media outlets should now be prevented from reporting upon the now public material or do you believe they should now have the freedom to report it should they choose to?

  64. It seems that all visitors are anonymous... zero points for the author... by the way Social Engineering has been around for quite some time, and guess who has been using it and improving it... this game is starting, and will not stop. Blessing for all anonymous people.

  65. You fail at life. If you actually looked at the alleged CC numbers in that pastebin, you would of noticed that they are all fake and generated. There is not a single credit card in the world that starts with the number 1... or a Visa card that starts with 3 or 5 or 6.

You Aren't even a troll, you are a failtroll.
